The following thread serves as a collection of ideas, thoughts, and suggestions on an issue that has shortly been addressed in the forum post "The server is dying", where several reasons were named why our community allegedly was not as good as it once was.
My suggestion would be, for example, this three point plan. It's anything but worked out yet, but I believe these three principles would be the beginning of enlarging our community.
- Bringing regular players into more frequent contact with staff: Make more use of Papa Broadcast, for example
- Bring regular players into more frequent contact with Elements: This would strengthen the image of actually being the Element Animation server.
- Endorsing sub-communities, e.g. towns: Players would try and make these communities of their own grow, coming up with their own methods to attract friends or players they know from other servers.
Feel free to critisise or add any statements, this is about our community, after all.
I believe the root cause of the lack of players would be many veteran players possibly moving on with their lives. Apart from players in general, the players from my time are virtually non-existent in any sort of capacity. Your only solution would probably be to find ways of garnering brand NEW players first. These sub-communities and incentives only work if we have a regular playerbase to work with at all.
The problem with staff endorsing communities, towns, clans etc is that it is prone to appearing as if staff is picking favorites. We must remain completely neutral in all things like this and thus we need to not get involved in endorsing or recognizing any of the such. It's very hard if not impossible to remain objective otherwise.
Ive tried getting my friends on this server before and when they actually join they never stay too long. now I would suggest oh just have the elements advertise it more but the thing is when they did that the majority would be players that would come by and visit and then quit afterwards. So somehow we need to take a new approach to this with more ideas. lets see what we can brain storm.
Now I appreciate all of your critique here, especially the precise focus on one of my statements, but can you actually add suggestions of your own too? If we just dismiss what others say without bringing in our own thoughts, then this post would lead into nothingness.
What are your thoughts on bringing people into more contact with staff / elements? I haven't heard anything on that note yet.
Also, I would like to express that I fully understand your point, y0, and that the last thing I'd personally want is staff picking favourites (or even giving the impression of doing so), which would harm their reputation.
I would love to see a PVP system on the server, it would be cool to have a kitpvp plugin with kits you can buy and upgrade. Heres a few reasons why.
1. People already PVP even though they dont really get stuff for it. People will play more often on the server if they like PVP and want to get the highest kit or the top leaderboard position.
2. PVP is already playable with 2 players, you dont need 10 like Bedwars. You and a friend can just hop on and kill eachother.
3. PVP Plugins are easy to find and setup. I have seen multiple on the internets that you can setup easily. (but i forgot the names srry).
Feedback on this idea would be appreciated.
I endorse that suggestion, TjerkNL, KitPvP also has the advantage that people will play even when they would normally fear the loss of items.
I've looked up two plugins that would serve the purpose of KitPvP.
Simple KitPvP, also holds Killstreaks, custom soups, etc.
KitPvP FFA, that includes but is not limited to 1vs1 modes, and endorses multiworld systems.
Both plugins would be on the stand of 1.12. and are regularly updated.
PvP upgrades would be great.
If we could initially give players a good impression of the server (besides the "Welcome -playername-" at their login, we could make them feel that the server is more than a "Hello, this is pretty much all the attention you will receive from most players." I know it's natural that people have to stick around a while to be really paid attention to, but if people were more willing to give tutorials, helpful info, and other things, they would stay on longer.
Last map, I wrote a book containing various facts about the server, and I gave a copy to each new player. As far as I noticed, they stayed on for a little while, and I think more Guides/Moderators doing this could really help. I know I'm not an official Guide, but I've tried my best to sort of help new players into the swing of things whenever I'm not really busy.
